Off-Grid Electrification Expo: Solar Home Systems and Appliances

At PowerTrends 2016 | September 21-23

Hosted by: The European Union/Philippines Department of Energy “Access to Sustainable Energy Programme”
In partnership with: The World Bank Group and the Global Partnership on Output-Based Aid

The Access to Sustainable Energy Programme invites you to participate in the Off-Grid Electrification Expo at PowerTrends 2016 from September 21 to 23.

Based on the partnership between the Philippines Department of Energy (DOE), the European Union (EU), the World Bank Group (WBG) and the Global Partnership on Output-Based Aid (GPOBA), the Access to Sustainable Energy Programme will provide financial incentives to deploy 40,500 SHS and appliance bundles in off-grid communities in the Philippines.

Participants will have opportunities to demonstrate their off-grid products, network with international off-grid industry leaders, meet with local electricity cooperatives to explore ways to collaborate, and conduct business in the Philippines’ growing off-grid energy market.

The event coincides with PowerTrends 2016, which is the most significant annual power and energy event in the Philippines. PowerTrends 2016 is hosted by the Philippines DOE.

Background: Philippines’ Off-Grid Energy Market

Of the 1.2 billion people around the world that lack access to electricity, an estimated 12 million live in the Philippines. For this underserved population living “beyond the grid,” access to modern energy service satisfies basic household and business needs.

Clean energy technologies—ranging from small solar portable lanterns and pico-lighting systems to larger stand-alone energy systems and high-quality off-grid appliances—provide off-grid communities with higher-quality energy services, displacing pre-modern fuels and delivering numerous health, environmental, and socioeconomic benefits.

The Philippines is an under-developed off-grid market with great potential. With investment from the EU and GPOBA and support from the Government of Philippines and the WBG, the off-grid appliance and SHS market is positioned to grow rapidly, transforming the lives of tens of thousands of un- and under-electrified people in Philippines.

About the “Access to Sustainable Energy Programme”

The European Union/Philippines Department of Energy Access to Sustainable Energy Programme  focuses on assisting the Philippines in increasing access to electricity in a sustainable manner. The programme aims to accelerate rural electrification via solar home systems (SHS) of an estimated 40,500 households within the coverage areas of participating Electric Cooperatives (ECs). GPOBA and the WBG are providing support through an Output-Based Aid (OBA) facility, which will be financed by a European Union grant of €18,400,000 and co-financed by a GPOBA grant of US$3,000,000.
